Colorado State University Identity
In 2016, our in-house CSU Creative Services team had the opportunity to update the word mark for Colorado State University. The charge was to make it more modern and adaptable for digital communications, especially for mobile. There was also an opportunity to partner with the CSU Athletics design team. Together, our Creative Services team and Athletics were able to create a direction that united many units within the University.

The old wordmark needed to scale or read better on mobile or other digital devices. The problem became more apparent as students accessed University information from their phones, and accessibility needs arose.
After a long exercise of exploring type treatments, the solution was in front of our team in the form of our University seal—one of the oldest branding examples at CSU.
A solution was created from that moment, and we were able to generate new unit identifiers for the various colleges and groups on campus. We created a modular system for the identity to scale from desktop to mobile scales.
Athletics was already trailblazing and eventually, the department began to introduce the new identity over time. Most recently, it made its debut at Moby Arena.
